Why BN is unfit to rule (29/08/2008)
Malaysiakini.com

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Shahrir Samad, a member of the ruling party's policy-making council, denied Anwar Ibrahim's victory was a major blow to the government.

"It was his home ground, so that was always an advantage because he has a lot of support there," Shahrir said. "We expected him to win. This just proves there is nothing wrong with our electoral system. But I still doubt he will be able to pull off his Sept 16 threat."

So, allow me to paraphrase the new official line, as previewed above: ‘We’re still in control, this is no big deal, and we expected to lose anyway.’ Expect to hear this spin ad nauseum from every local newspaper and TV news programme in the coming days.
Industry Should Be Ready To Reduce Price, Says Shahrir (24/08/2008)
JOHOR BAHARU, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The industry must be ready to reduce the price of goods in line with the drop in the fuel prices to cushion the inflationary pressure on the people, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad.

He said the government hoped that the inflation rate, which stood at eight per cent at the moment, could be lowered following the drop in fuel prices.

"The people need to feel the effect of the drop in fuel price as how they experienced the increase. Companies need to be ready to bring down the prices of goods," he told reporters after launching the state-level 2008 Consumer's Day in Plaza Angsana, Tampoi.
Budget to focus on the people (24/08/2008)
JOHOR BARU: The Budget 2009 is likely to concentrate on easing the burden of rising inflation and on improving facilities for the people.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said he anticipated that the Budget would be directed at assisting the people.

“I feel the phase of focusing on the building of roads and bridges is over. We don’t need that many more roads.
Government decides to bring forward ‘floating’ price mechanism (23/08/2008)
KUALA LUMPUR: The prices of diesel and petrol have been reduced by between eight and 22 sen a litre from today, 10 days earlier than expected.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said RON97 petrol now costs RM2.55 a litre, a drop of 15 sen from RM2.70 a litre while the price of RON92 went down by 22 sen to RM2.40 a litre.

Diesel will cost eight sen less at RM2.50 a litre.

Abdullah said in a statement yesterday the Cabinet decided to bring forward the “floating” price mechanism for fuel after considering the drop in global oil prices over the past few weeks as well as higher inflation in July.
Decrease In Petrol Price Not A Political Gimmick (23/08/2008)
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The drop in petrol and diesel prices as announced by the government Friday, was neither a political gimmick nor related to the Permatang Pauh by-election, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad.

"If there was no by-election, the government would still announce the decrease in petrol price and the government is not influenced with what is going on in Permatang Pauh.

"We are doing what we had decided on before. Petrol and diesel prices would be reviewed monthly and of course, the government is interested if there was a formula to lessen the people's burden," he told reporters here.
Minyak: Bukan cari kepentingan politik (23/08/2008)

He said the act was aimed at ensuring fair price, competitiveness and effectiveness of marketing so that traders could engage in healthy competition while consumers get quality products at fair price.

Sistem Edar Barangan Keperluan Mulai Bulan Ini (12/08/2008)

Shahrir Samad balas hujah Anwar (20/07/2008)

ERTI SEKEPING GAMBAR .... (02/07/2008)

BETULLAH bak dikata sekeping gambar memberi seribu makna.

Shahrir: Rice dealers have already taken advantage (21/05/2008)
Daily Express, Sabah, Malaysia

The Government may have to expedite the implementation of measures to control the price and supply of rice as wholesalers and traders have taken advantage of the situation, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad.

He said the matter would be proposed at the Anti-Inflation Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday as wholesalers and traders had recently increased the price of the commodity, thus burdening the consumers.

"We cannot take any action (against the wholesalers and traders) unless the Government enforces the measures.

"This clearly shows that the wholesalers and traders have taken advantage of the situation by increasing prices before the government enforces the price control measures," he told reporters after attending a luncheon hosted by 28 Johor Baru fish wholesalers associations, Sunday.
Warna dakwat kekal untuk menanda jari pengundi semasa proses pilihan raya dirahsiakan. (18/05/2008)

"Jangan beritahu sesiapa warnanya sehingga pilihan raya diadakan," katanya.

There is also a lot of other blogs." | Asked if Umno's tolerance of Ong's speech can be seen as a sign of reform, Shahrir said: "It is not an issue of reform. YB. Dato

Assalamu alaikum.
Congratulations on your very bold move to introduce restrictions for foreign cars to fill-up Petrol around border areas. It is a very good move made in the interest of poor and deserving Malaysians.

Terima Kasih

YB, a blanket band on foreign registered vehicles from filling up petrol @ border towns will result in further economic hardship on the citizens of these border towns cities.

Johor Bahru's economy, a town from which you hail from YB, and whose constituents had elected you to Parliament, depends substantially on commerce with our neighbours down south. This ban will adversely affect the livelihood of Malaysians in Johor Bahru and other border towns cities.

Dear YB. Dato' Shahrir,
Greetings to you sir from the state of Singapore, the purpose of my email to you sir, is to plead that you reconsider the ban on foreign cars pumping petrol.

I have been a avid supporter of your country\'s economy as I comes almost every week to enjoy the great food and entertainment your country provides. A ban like this is very harsh on us though I\'m aware of your intentions to safe keep the subsidised fuel for the fellow malaysians, I wonder if you could consider letting foreign registered vehicles pump petrol at JB or anywhere else at full price, I believe it is fair to you all and us as well since we have enjoyed the privileges.

Thanks for your time. Looking forward to your revert, Warmest regards,

Daniel Ho

Dear Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad,

With regards to the news of "No petrol sales to foreign cars (27/05/2008)".
I would like to clarify if that ban applies to Malaysian driving
Singapore-registered car? The reason is that i'm working in Singapore and i'm travelling back to JB everyday, as my parents is base in JB.

Please help to clarify the doubt.
Regards,
Kelvin

Assalamualaikum wr wb
YB. Dato' Shahrir Bin Abdul Samad

Dr Novandri Hasan Basri - Mahathir Quits UMNO - Adab & Harapan

Penulis menulis, ‘Assalamualaikum Dato Seri. Can you elaborate more regarding ‘pelan pemulihan UMNO’ as discussed in MT meeting? If I may give my opinion, there’s lack of of 2 way communication between leaders and grassroots.

We’re kept in the dark, guessing & wondering without any guidance. Our point of reference are newspaper & tv & not from our own leaders.

YB Dato' Shahrir

To ensure that only the deserved Malaysians get the subsidy, I would encourage the Government to enfore a rationing system which can be done using the high-tech MyKad, which every Malaysian possess.

Also, please do take measures to stop Singaporeans from enjoying our subsidised petrol (By having a mechanism to allow only mykad holders are given that subsidy).
