PUTRAJAYA, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Fuel prices may be lowered further before Hari Raya Puasa, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad said Wednesday.
Shahrir said the good news as hoped for by the people would be in line with the downward trend of global fuel prices.
"I am glad to see world fuel prices go down, eventhough there will be effects felt after Hurricane Gustav (on the United States' Gulf Coast), the politics in Europe and the like.
PUTRAJAYA: The Government is providing 9,000 litres of subsidised diesel for each additional bus the operators are willing to put on the road, to avert a shortage for the Hari Raya rush across the country.
The Cabinet decided to offer this incentive following fears that school and factory bus operators might refuse to lease out their buses, if they were not offered a diesel subsidy>
To ward off such a crisis, an additional 2,000 express buses can be expected to be put on the roads for the balik kampung exodus this Hari Raya.

He added that the Government would be spending between RM100mil and RM150mil in subsidy.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- Budget 2009 is a realistic budget that provides a safety net for the people, said Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

"The budget shows that the government is sensitive to the welfare of people from all strata of society.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Shahrir Samad, a member of the ruling party's policy-making council, denied Anwar Ibrahim's victory was a major blow to the government.
"It was his home ground, so that was always an advantage because he has a lot of support there," Shahrir said. "We expected him to win. This just proves there is nothing wrong with our electoral system. But I still doubt he will be able to pull off his Sept 16 threat."
So, allow me to paraphrase the new official line, as previewed above: ‘We’re still in control, this is no big deal, and we expected to lose anyway.’ Expect to hear this spin ad nauseum from every local newspaper and TV news programme in the coming days.
JOHOR BAHARU, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The industry must be ready to reduce the price of goods in line with the drop in the fuel prices to cushion the inflationary pressure on the people, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad.
He said the government hoped that the inflation rate, which stood at eight per cent at the moment, could be lowered following the drop in fuel prices.
"The people need to feel the effect of the drop in fuel price as how they experienced the increase. Companies need to be ready to bring down the prices of goods," he told reporters after launching the state-level 2008 Consumer's Day in Plaza Angsana, Tampoi.
KUALA LUMPUR: The prices of diesel and petrol have been reduced by between eight and 22 sen a litre from today, 10 days earlier than expected.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said RON97 petrol now costs RM2.55 a litre, a drop of 15 sen from RM2.70 a litre while the price of RON92 went down by 22 sen to RM2.40 a litre.

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The drop in petrol and diesel prices as announced by the government Friday, was neither a political gimmick nor related to the Permatang Pauh by-election, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad.
"If there was no by-election, the government would still announce the decrease in petrol price and the government is not influenced with what is going on in Permatang Pauh.
"We are doing what we had decided on before. Petrol and diesel prices would be reviewed monthly and of course, the government is interested if there was a formula to lessen the people's burden," he told reporters here.

He said the act was aimed at ensuring fair price, competitiveness and effectiveness of marketing so that traders could engage in healthy competition while consumers get quality products at fair price.
"The ministry is seeking views from various industry sectors, government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) aimed at strengthening the proposed act," he said in reply to a question by Zuraida Kamaruddin (PKR-Ampang) who wanted to know whether Malaysia had anti-monopoly laws.

BETULLAH bak dikata sekeping gambar memberi seribu makna.
The Government may have to expedite the implementation of measures to control the price and supply of rice as wholesalers and traders have taken advantage of the situation, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad.
He said the matter would be proposed at the Anti-Inflation Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday as wholesalers and traders had recently increased the price of the commodity, thus burdening the consumers.
"We cannot take any action (against the wholesalers and traders) unless the Government enforces the measures.
"This clearly shows that the wholesalers and traders have taken advantage of the situation by increasing prices before the government enforces the price control measures," he told reporters after attending a luncheon hosted by 28 Johor Baru fish wholesalers associations, Sunday.
"Jangan beritahu sesiapa warnanya sehingga pilihan raya diadakan," katanya.
